Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition Features Top-of-Pole Mounts by
PLP subsidiary, DPW Solar
On the February 8 episode of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, DPW Solar’s Top-of-Pole mounting system was used in the construction of the Girard family’s new home in Connecticut.
Along with Ty Pennington and crew, community volunteers pulled together to build the
Girard’s a 3,200-square-foot, energy-efficient home that resembled the look of an old
castle. Even though the architectural design reflected an ancient style, the overarching
goal was to construct a more modern, sustainable home to help save the family money.
Therefore, three of DPW’s Top-of-Pole mounts were installed to create an energysaving
solar system, holding a total of 36 solar modules.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition contacted Alteris™ Renewables, Inc., a renewable
energy systems integrator, to help them construct the solar system. Alteris immediately
recommended DPW Solar’s Top-of-Pole Mounts for the project because of the strength
and adjustability of the product.
The Top-of-Pole mounts hold the solar modules at an optimal orientation to maximize
the energy produced from the sun, which offsets the family’s electric bill and also
reduces harmful green house gases. This solar system is also connected to the utility
grid through a net metering system. Because of this direct connection, the electric
company compensates the Girard’s for energy that is generated but not used at the
residence.
