Corning Cable Systems Grants License to Preformed Line Products for Preconnectorized Fiber Terminal Patents
Cleveland, Ohio – August 7, 2007 – Preformed Line Products Company (NASDAQ:PLPC) and Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE: GLW) Telecommunications segment, announce the signing of a license agreement, the terms of which provide PLP with a non-exclusive license to certain optical fiber terminal patents.
Preformed Line Products (PLP) is licensed under Corning’s the optical terminal patents. Corning will also be supplying PLP with its OptiTap™ Connectors, the ideal solution for factory-terminated, environmentally sealed and hardened connectors for use in drop cable deployments in optical access networks. The hardened connector significantly reduces the terminal and drop cable installation time for subscriber connection, thereby reducing the total installed cost of deployment.
“PLP is pleased to be able to address the growing market demand for preconnectorized optical terminals,” said John Hofstetter, director of marketing and sales for PLP. “PLP’s innovative COYOTE® Closure designs, coupled with Corning’s OptiTap Connector technology, can advance the use of cost-effective preconnectorized products in FTTx deployments.”
“This agreement will enable Corning and PLP to further promote and participate in global FTTx applications,” said Dr. Bernhard Deutsch, director of marketing and market development for Corning Cable Systems public networks. “Customers will benefit from having an additional source for preconnectorized terminals to make deployments faster, easier, more reliable and less costly.”
PLP’s COYOTE® Fiber Optics offer a wide array of innovative product solutions to take fiber direct to customers. | | | | | | | April 23, 2007 | | PLP Announces Improved Financial Results for the Quarter Ended March 31, 2007 | | |
Mayfield Village, Ohio – April 23, 2007 – Preformed Line Products Company (Nasdaq:PLPC) today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2007.
- Net income increased 49% for the first quarter on a 7% increase in net sales
- Earnings per diluted share increased 60% for the first three months
Net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2007 increased 49% to $3,718,000, or $.69 per diluted share, compared to $2,499,000, or $.43 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2006.
Sales for the quarter of $56,531,000 were 7% higher than sales of $52,635,000 in the first quarter of 2006.
Rob Ruhlman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We experienced improvements in our major domestic markets during the quarter. Sales in our domestic core markets of power and telecommunications improved 21% in the first quarter of 2007 compared to 2006. Investment in new projects to upgrade the power grid by the electric utility companies was the major driver of this increase. We also benefited from increasing investment by cable companies to defend their market share as well as the investment by communication companies in running fiber to the premise. Foreign sales were down less than 1% from the previous year; however, currency had a 4% favorable impact on sales. I am pleased with the increase in net income of nearly 50% and am optimistic about the rest of the year.”

| | | | | | | April 12, 2007 | | PLP Forms Solar Division with Acquisition of the Direct Power & Water Corp. | | |
Mayfield Village, Ohio – April 12, 2007 – Preformed Line Products (PLP) announced the formation of a new solar energy division with its acquisition of Direct Power and Water Corporation (DP&W), a leading designer, manufacturer and installer of solar power systems based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Established in 1993, DP&W employs approximately 55 people, and specializes in engineering, designing and installing turnkey photovoltaic systems for residential, commercial and industrial applications. DP&W will be the foundation of PLP’s newly formed Solar Division, PLP Solar, which will spearhead the Company’s wider initiatives in the renewable energy market.
“Solar power generation continues to gain economic acceptance due to improved technology, rising costs of traditional energy sources and growing demand for energy independence,” commented Rob Ruhlman, PLP’s Chairman and CEO. “We believe PLP can play a significant role in solar and other alternative energy markets as “wireless” power continues to grow.”
The acquisition of DP&W provides PLP with direct access to the fast growing renewable energy market and complements PLP’s existing operational expertise and market leading position in the power utility industry. “As power utility companies look to offset growing peak energy demands with alternative energy sources, PLP Solar will be well positioned to assist these customers by providing turnkey solutions,” said Dennis McKenna, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for PLP. “In addition, the acquisition of DP&W expands PLP’s core manufacturing capabilities in the area of metal fabrication, and its location enhances PLP’s operational footprint in the US.”
As a key component to the acquisition, DP&W founders Kevin Goodreau, President, and Jeffrey Randall, Vice President and Director of Engineering, will be remaining with DP&W to help lead the launch of PLP Solar.
“After 14 years of building DP&W from a two person business to a medium-sized company, it became apparent with the recent growth in the renewable energy industry that we needed to expand our reach into new markets, develop new products and refine our manufacturing capabilities,” said Kevin Goodreau. “The management and staff fully support this undertaking. We look forward to growing the solar power business and leading PLP’s expansion into the renewable energy market.”
“After our initial discussions, we knew that PLP and DP&W were the right fit, and with the synergies between wired power and wireless power it became obvious to both parties that this was a great match,” added Jeffrey Randall. “We wanted a company that was interested in our business, our employees, and had the ability to quickly expand our capabilities to become a world leader in the renewable energy industry.”

| | | | | | | February 19, 2007 | | PLP Announces Improved Financial Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2006 | | |
Mayfield Village, Ohio –
February 19, 2007 – Preformed Line Products Company (Nasdaq: PLPC) today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and the full year ended December 31, 2006.
Net income for the quarter ended December 31, 2006 increased to $2,032,000, or $.38 per diluted share, compared to $883,000, or $.15 per diluted share, for the comparable period in 2005. Net sales in the fourth quarter 2006 were $51,765,000, an 11% increase from last year’s $46,726,000
Net income for the full year ended December 31, 2006 increased to $12,060,000, or $2.13 per diluted share, compared to the prior year’s $11,986,000, or $2.07 per diluted share. Net sales increased 5% to $216,937,000 for the full year 2006 compared to $205,804,000 in 2005.
Rob Ruhlman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Our international operations had a record year for both sales and income. International sales of $105 million were 17% higher than the previous year. Currency had a $2.8 million favorable impact on sales. Our 2006 domestic sales were 3% lower than 2005 as a result of a weak telecommunications market. However, domestic sales recovered in the fourth quarter and were 9% stronger than the fourth quarter of 2005 in our core energy and telecommunication markets. This trend is continuing into 2007 as we anticipated. I am particularly pleased with our fourth quarter net income more than doubling that of 2005. One of our biggest challenges for 2007 will be improving operating efficiencies in our domestic operations to make up for continuing increases in raw material costs.”
On Thursday, February 15, 2007 the Board of Directors authorized the Company to repurchase up to 200,000 common shares, $2 par value per share, or approximately 3.7% of the Company’s outstanding common shares. Under the repurchase program, which does not have a stated expiration date, the Company has authority to repurchase common shares through the open market, block purchases, or in negotiated private transactions on an ongoing basis. The repurchases will be subject to availability of common shares, general market conditions, the trading price of the common shares, alternative uses for capital, and the Company’s financial condition and performance.
The Board of Directors also declared a regular quarterly dividend in the amount of $.20 per share on the Company’s common shares, payable April 20, 2007 to shareholders of record at the close of business on April 2, 2007.
